Victor Wooten’s
Bass/Nature Camp is a 6-day experience with about 60 students.
The camp will
be packed full of surprises that will begin as soon as the student
arrives. Our goal is to build awareness by keeping each student on
his/her toes at all times not knowing what is coming next. This awareness
will greatly benefit you as a musician. We will do this through games,
puzzles, lessons, blind folded exercises and many other things designed
to open up your mind and awaken the senses to the vast world of Nature,
Music, Life and You.
Classes alternate
between indoor and outdoor settings with each student rotating between
instructors getting a balanced and fun dose of Nature and Musical
information. This will help show the relationship between the two.
The student will be involved in group exercises and lectures as well
as individual instruction. Classes are designed to allow the student
to ask questions as well as join in on the teaching.
Students will
not use knives in any of the Nature exercises to allow for extreme
care in the protection of the students' valuable Bass-playing hands.
“I don’t eat
this well at home” was a comment from a few of previous year’s
participants. Plenty of healthy meals will be served each day. (Vegetarian
meals will be served upon request.)
Each night features
live performances and open dialogue allowing time for reflection on
the day’s activities and remaining questions the students may have.
We believe that
this camp will provide a pleasant ground for all of us to experience
and grow together and to make new lasting friendships.
Even after 6 years, this camp is
still in the experimental stage and we plan to keep it that way.
