Frequently Asked Questions

Inside The Dome
Q: How do I apply for camp?
A: First, keep checking the site to find out when the application period is open. (It is usually about 4 months before a camp.) Then, when we are accepting applications, go to the website and find the ‘VixCamps’ link. Click on that, and it will direct you to the Camp page. Somewhere on that page you will find the application. We suggest that you read through the entire camp website before filling one out. The application period is usually ACTIVE for about a month or so. So, apply early. Remember, keep checking back to see when the application period is open. (Look the the APPLY HERE link on the front page of this website.)
Q: Can I fill out an application for someone else?
A: Some of you may want to apply on someone else’s behalf, but we prefer that the person who is going to be attending the camp answer the questions themselves….it just MIGHT make a difference in the acceptance process!
Q: How much does the camp cost?
A: All the information about the camp is currently on the web site, including the current price. However, the price is subject to change from camp to camp.
Q: Who teaches at the camp? Will Victor be there?
A: Instructors are listed on the site and may change from camp to camp, but Victor is there teaching every day. (Keep in mind that you may also be asked to teach.)
Q: What skill level do I need to be at to attend your camp? Do I need to audition?
A: Once you can play “Donna Lee” with your left hand, while simultaneously playing “School Days” with your right, oh yeah, and singing “Billy Jean” while doing the moonwalk… No, actually, there are no specific qualifications or skill levels required. All are encouraged to apply! There are no auditions.
Q: How old do I need to be to attend camp?
A: At Wooten Woods Retreat, we will be offering different camps for different ages. Keep checking the website for details. For the regular Bass/Nature Camp, there is a minimum age of 15, but no maximum age. B/N Junior Camp is for ages 17 and under. Keep watching for the next Junior camp.
Q: How do you accept students? What is your process?
A: Once all the applications are read over, the process of selection has to do mainly with achieving the most diverse group of students as possible - age, sex, nationality, locality, skill levels, etc. It's all contingent on who is applying at that time as well as who has applied before.
Q: How many students do you accept?
A: Grasshopper, at the B/N Camp, we can only accommodate about 60 campers at a time. Since there are usually over 200 that apply for each camp, don't be discouraged if you don't get accepted the first time...keep trying, and sooner or later, you will be accepted! Other camps that we will offer may accept different amounts.
Q: How will I know if I am accepted?
A: An owl will fly to your house and deliver your acceptance letter. If all of our owls are busy, someone will email you. (expect an email)
Q: How can I increase my chances of getting accepted?
A: (I could have fun with this answer, but I won’t.) There isn't really any way to increase your chances of getting in except to keep applying if you do get in on your first try.
Q: How did Jimmy Crack Corn get his name?
A: Hey, how’d that get in here?
Q: What do you teach at camp?
A: Crochet, knitting, origami, etc. (jk) Some of the topics we cover are mentioned on the camp site although most of what we do is not. We like the element of surprise.
Q: Is the camp mostly nature stuff or is it mostly music?
A: Nature stuff? It is a bass slash NATURE camp. Seriously tho’, at the B/N Camp there are nature and awareness activities designed for special purposes everyday. But the daily schedule usually consists of about three fourths musical activities.
Q: When do you have camps and how many do you have each year?
A: There is no set schedule, though typically, in the past, we’ve had 2 camps each year (one in the spring and one in the fall). Now that we have our own location, we plan on having more camps, as well as different styles of camps each year. Watch for details.
Q: Where is the camp held?
A: All of Victor’s camps will now be held at the “new” Wooten Woods location near Nashville, TN.
Q: Do you ever have camps in other states or other countries?
A: States of mind or…ok, here’s the real answer. Although most of our camps will be held at our new location in Tennessee, every once-in-a-while, we will offer a weekend camp in another location. So far, we have not run a camp in another country, but one of our past students (Din Safari) runs a Music/Nature Camp in Singapore. We like that.
Q: Are there any weekend camps scheduled?
A: My crystal ball tells me that you’ll have to check the website for that answer.
Q: Does Victor teach at any other camps?
A: Victor teaches at Steve bailey’s Bass at the Beach in Myrtle Beach, SC and once a year at Richard Cleveland’s Earth School in Tryon, N. Carolina. Victor will also sometimes appear as a guest instructor at other camps such as Gerald Veasley’s Bass Boot Camp.
Q: Can I be a volunteer at for one of your camps?
A: You may inquire about being a volunteer after you have attended one of our previous camps. Thanks for asking.
Q: I'm concerned about flying with my bass. Do you have any advice?
A: I would suggest that you fly with an airplane. Seriously, we have a whole page of tips and info about traveling with your bass. You can find it here....
Q: Where can I write to ask a question that I can't find the answer to?
A: If you've searched through the entire website and still can't find the answer to your question, write us at basscamp@victorwooten.com .
