For years I've wanted to do a song like this that incorporates and pays tribute to Native American lifestyle and music. It is also a wakeup call for us present day Americans to pay attention to what our ancestors have to say. Natives from all cultures seem to have wise knowledge that we should pay close attention too. After recording the bass and drums I started looking for the right Native American to sing the vocals. I also wanted to create a Pow Wow vibe in the middle of the song. Some friends of mine perform with an amazing performer named Robert Mirabal. He performs huge Native American shows all around the country. His productions are incredible. Go see him when U get the chance. We started talking about what we wanted to do but could never get our schedules to match up. I then started thinking of other options. I was running out of time because I had to get this song finished. One day it hit me. Bill Miller! He is a popular Native American singer and musician that lives in Nashville near me. I don't know why I hadn't thought about him in the first place. We had worked together on a few other occasions already. When I called Bill he said that he had to go out of town for a day but could record for me in 2 days. I was very happy to hear that. When he showed up, he brought his flutes, drum, shakers and all kinds of cool things. He did all of the Native voices and instruments by himself making it sound like a whole tribe is singing. He is AWESOME. He really enjoyed himself with this song and U can hear it. Notice, there is only bass, drums, percussion and flute playing music on most of this song. Keys come in only at the end. |
