This song was recorded about 2 years ago. It was after the fact that I added Kelly's vocal slap bass part. He can vocally slap better than many bass players can play. It was so cool that I had to learn it. So, at the end of the tune U hear me play in unison with Kelly's voice. It's pretty cool. I used my five string Yin Yang Fodera with a Yamaha MIDI pickup run through the Roland V-Bass and a Digitech effects pedal. The Roland gave me the envelope type effect while the Digitech gave me the wild vibrato. Shawn is an amazing horn player that I met a few years back through Derico. He can really, really play. He's also playing on a yet to be released song of mine that also features Mike Stern, Regi, Joseph, JD and Sifu Brian Edwards. Don't worry, it'll come out some day. While visiting relatives in N. Carolina I had my cousin M.C. Sookie improvise some rap for me. We did it in the living room of my uncle's house. It came out really good. I think that this is her first major recording but hopefully not her last. She is very talented. One of the coolest parts of this song is Roy's percussion part played on a Cajon (a box). It adds such a funky quality to the drum part, especially in the bass solo section. U can hear him breathing to the groove also. Again, Check out the end of the song where I try to keep up with Kelly Gravely's vocal part. |
