This song came about one day when I was at a Flecktones soundcheck. I came up with the bass line first and then started trying to figure out a melody. It wasn't coming. I didn't come up with the melody until we were in the studio recording it. I came up with it as I was teaching it to Joseph. (I don't think that he knew that.) That's when I came up with the bridge also, as I was teaching it to Jeff. Many of the parts to these songs were written in the studio as we were recording. I would write parts to one song while we were recording another or I would just have everyone play the main groove to the song until a bridge or melody showed up in my head. I always knew that it would show up eventually. Maybe that's why it always did.

I recorded Steve at his house in South Carolina sometime in Feb. 99. I was there with the Flecktones so I brought the Roland VS1680 over and set it up on his pool table. I didn't know before hand where or what he should play on the song so we just came up with his part on the spot.

The title to the song was the last thing to be added.

Basses:

• Compito 6-string on the grooves and
• Fodera Tenor 4-string bass for the solo.
• Steve used his Aria 6-string Fretless.

Things 2 listen 4:

• Listen to the Sax & Bass unison line at the end of the sax solo. Steve & Jeff nailed that line. It may be the best single phrase on the whole record.
• The order of the solos are reverse at the end of the tune. Joseph, Jeff, Steve & Victor: then Victor, Steve, Jeff & Joseph. Pretty cool huh? (Actually, it was an accident.)
• Tibbs does most of his percussion stuff in one take. He's really an Octopus
• Regi's 2 hand tapping in the intro.
