Monkey Fingers Studio Nashville, TN in March of 1999.
Kaila recorded by Victor Wooten at home in December of 1998.
I heard a recording by an artist who had put music to a speech that someone had given. I think that the artist was Hermento Pasqual. His recording blew me away. That is what gave me the idea of doing a similar thing with Kaila. I had been following her around in December of "98" with a microphone and a DAT recorder. She has always loved to talk and I soon realized how musical her speaking is. I took some of her phrases and put a string of them together in no particular order. I then learned it on the Bass and played along with her in unison. Joseph then came in and put chords to it. Next, I added Bass lines to the chords.
The intro to this song was originally going to be used for the song Sacred Place. After recording it I realized that it didn't need the intro. It worked better for this song so I asked Joseph to play something similar at the end as an outro. I added fretless Bass to it later on. It amazes me how well it all fits together like a song. I guess that Kaila actually helped write it.
