Anyone that has seen my "Super Solo Bass Technique" videotape should remember this song. We did it as an instrumental on that tape. The song was written back around 1986 when I was living in Virginia. "Zeke" was living there also and this was a time period when we would write and record a lot of songs together. Zeke was on the original recording way back then.
This song came together very easily. My brothers Regi and Joseph played this song with me in the video. Long time friend of the family Kelly Gravely came in and laid down the drum groove for us. He had seen the video so he already knew the song.
I don't know how or why but somewhere along the line I got the idea to sing these vocals in reverse. I sang the vocals into my Lexicon Jam Man sampler. I then reversed the sample to hear the vocals in reverse. I then learned them in reverse and re-sang it into the sampler (in reverse as I had learned it). So now I had a sample of me singing the vocals in reverse. I then reversed that sample to make my vocals play forward. That's what u are hearing. I added a forward vocal on top of it to make the lyrics a little clearer and easier to understand. Check it out. Did u follow any of this?
This is an old school funk song like the kind I used to play growing up. It was fun getting to come back to this style and this song.
